The Resolution will amend the 2009 Adopted Operating Budget of the Economic Development Division to reallocate $9,000 in Purchased Services funding for business retention software to Hourly Employee Pay and Fringe Benefits to support the hire of an intern. There is no net impact on the levy.

To authorize the Economic Development Division Director to hire an intern for the Division; and, authorizing the amendment of the 2009 Economic Development Division Operating Budget to reallocate $9,000 in Purchased Services funding for business retention/expansion software to Hourly Employee Pay and Fringe Benefits for the provision of the intern.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council accepted the 3-5 Year Strategic Economic Development Implementation Plan (“Plan”) on August 5, 2008; and,

WHEREAS, the Plan called for an expanded business retention/expansion campaign; and,

WHEREAS, the Common Council included $9,000 within the 2009 Economic Development Division Operating budget for the purchase of software to assist with this business retention/expansion effort; and,

WHEREAS, the current national economic recession has presented new challenges and opportunities for the City of Madison; and,

WHEREAS, the Economic Development Division Director has determined that prior to purchasing retention/expansion software, an expanded retention/expansion campaign should be explored further; and,

WHEREAS, the Economic Development Division Director has determined that Division staff need to devote more attention to the increasing number of unemployed individuals in the City of Madison; and,

WHEREAS, the Economic Development Division Director has determined that additional staff capacity is required at this time, which could be in part supported through the hiring of a Division intern.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council authorizes the Economic Development Division Director to hire an intern for the Division; and,
