Recognizing the selfless heroism of Lieutenant Gerald Stull.
WHEREAS, fifty one years ago, on May 5, 1958, Lieutenant Gerald Stull, a United States Air Force pilot stationed at Truax Field, sacrificed his life by ditching his disabled F-102A jet into Lake Monona to avoid hitting the densely populated Madison neighborhood surrounding Hudson Park; and
WHEREAS, on May 9, 2009, the Friends of Hudson Park are placing a memorial to Lieutenant Stull in Hudson Park to honor his selfless heroism and to educate future generations about the man whose actions saved many in the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison hereby recognizes the heroism of Lieutenant Gerald Stull.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Madison extends its gratitude to Lieutenant Stull's widow, Alice Baggett, and son, Clark Stull, for the sacrifice their husband and father made on behalf of the people of Madison.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lt. Stull's family as a token of this city's appreciation for Lieutenant Stull's heroic actions.
