Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Robbie Webber for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 5 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Robbie Webber was first elected to the Madison Common Council on April 1, 2003 and was re-elected in 2005 and 2007; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber served on the Common Council Organizational Committee, Joint West Campus Area Committee, Long Range Transportation Planning Commission, Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MPO), Pedestrian/Bicycle/Motor Vehicle Commission, Transit and Parking Commission, Commission on the Environment, Garver Building Reuse Committee, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Regent Street-South Campus Plan Steering Committee and the Streetcar Study Committee; and,
WHEREAS, during her tenure she worked closely with the University, UW Hospital, the Regent Neighborhood, and her constituents on and off campus during many major development projects on campus; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber was mindful of her responsibility to represent renters, homeowners, students and long-term residents in matters of city policy and neighborhood issues; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber was proud to be the first co-sponsor of the smoking ban (and the last remaining sponsor on the Council at its passage) enduring bar-time calls, angry blogs and on-line comments, vilification by talk radio, yet she recognized that the vast majority of Madisonians and 80% of her district supported smoke-free work places; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber sponsored the city phosphorous ban in fertilizers, anticipating by several years the state law that is now being signed into law; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber was proud to be known as the “Bike Geek," but also tried to give a voice to those walking and taking transit, as these are cornerstones of a good transportation urban system; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Webber lead the way for the city to apply for...
