Recognizing and commending Enis Ragland for his professional and personal dedication to the City of Madison on the occasion of his retirement.
Body
WHEREAS, Enis Ragland is retiring from the City of Madison on March 31, 2009 after 18 years of service to the City; and
 
WHEREAS, Enis began his career in 1991 when he accepted a position as Assistant to the Mayor under Mayor Paul Soglin.  He assisted the mayor in the management of many City departments and agencies, including Public Health, Equal Opportunities Commission, Police, Fire, Comptroller, CDBG, Community Services, Emergency Operations, Affordable Housing, Labor Relations, Neighborhood Associations, Neighborhood Centers and Planning Councils; and
 
WHEREAS, Enis spent seven years as Chief of Staff to the Mayor under Mayor Sue Bauman where he was dedicated to the development of policy initiatives in the areas of employment, literacy, neighborhoods, alcohol and other drug issues, and Early Childhood Development; and
 
WHEREAS, in April 2003, Enis was named Interim Director of the Department of Affirmative Action; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2005, Enis returned to the Office of the Mayor as Assistant to Mayor David Cieslewicz; and
 
WHEREAS, in October 2007, Enis was appointed Interim Director of the Office of Community Services; and
 
WHEREAS, Enis is currently on the Board of Directors for 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc., a non-profit organization he co-founded in 1995, dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of area youth, especially African American males, through mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic development programs; and
 
WHEREAS, his dedication to civil rights and serving under-represented populations is shown by the vast array of professional associations, foundations, and non-profit organizations he is, and has been, active in; and
 
WHEREAS, Enis' professionalism, commitment, and expertise has earned him the respect and admiration of those who have had the good fortune to work with him; and
 
WHEREAS, Enis' incomparable style and taste have made him one of the best dressed men in the City of Madison.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison thank Enis Ragland for his many years of dedicated service to the City of Madison and wish him continued success with all his future endeavors.
