Title
To commend the Apartment Association of South Central Wisconsin and Executive Director, Nancy Jensen.
Body
WHEREAS, the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program assists the elderly, the disabled and families with children residing in the City of Madison; and,
WHEREAS, a few years ago, only 2 of every 3 (or approximately 65 to 75%) new participants succeeded in leasing a unit with a voucher; and,
WHEREAS, the Apartment Association and Nancy Jensen worked with CDA Housing Operations staff to promote the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8); and,
WHEREAS, the Apartment Association's endorsement and promotion of this program among its membership and peers has opened doors that were previously closed; and,
WHEREAS, that success rate has improved dramatically in recent years, currently 97% are successful in leasing up,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council recognizes and acknowledges the Apartment Association of South Central Wisconsin and Executive Director Nancy Jensen for their work and contribution promoting affordable housing through its endorsement and promotion of the Section 8 Program in Madison, Wisconsin.
