Awarding the second annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award to Judy Olson and Warren Onken.
Body
WHERAS, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and the Madison Common Council created the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award in memory of Jeff Erlanger’s contributions to the City of Madison; and

WHEREAS, a committee appointed by the mayor has selected Judy Olson and Warren Onken, individuals who share Jeff Erlanger’s dedication to and compassion for public policy development, civility and individual human rights; and

WHEREAS, Judy Olson was instrumental in the completion of several neighborhood plans which helped guide development in the 6th District, chaired the City’s Living Wage Task Force which resulted in the passage of the city's Living Wage ordinance and assisted in the completion of the city's Climate Protection Plan; and

WHEREAS, Judy epitomized the definition of civility with her respect and kindness towards others and courteous approach to debate; and

WHEREAS, Warren Onken has the distinction of being the longest serving alderperson, with 28 years of dedicated and conscientious service on the Madison Common Council and to the City of Madison; and

WHEREAS, during those 28 years Warren became known for his exceptional leadership skills and his willingness to work with others to achieve compromise on some of the most controversial issues facing the city; and

WHEREAS, Judy and Warren are known and respected for their ability to work with those from all parts of the City and from all walks of life, seeking common ground to help resolve tough issues, and always recognizing that fundamental respect is the cornerstone of political discourse;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Judy Olson and Warren Onken are the recipients of the second annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council presents this award to Jud...
