Title: Amending Sections 3.54(1)(j)3. and 3.54(1)(k)3.b. of the Madison General Ordinances to reflect salary increases for various unrepresented positions in Compensation Group 21.

Fiscal Note
This amendment increases the minimum and maximum of the salary range of the Police Chief and Fire Chief positions by 3% for 2008 and an additional 3% for 2009, consistent with other represented and unrepresented City employees. There is no fiscal impact. Actual salary placement within the range will be determined by the Mayor pursuant to City Ordinances.

DRAFTER’S ANALYSIS: This ordinance reflects salary increases previously authorized for the named positions which were inadvertently left out of ORD-08-00079 adopted July 1, 2008.

The Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby ordain as follows:
1. Paragraph 3. of Subdivision (j) entitled “Police Department Salary Schedule” of Subsection (1) entitled “Basic Salary Schedules By Compensation Groups” of the Madison General Ordinances is amended to read as follows:
“3. Commencing effective with the pay period that includes January 1, 2006 January 1, 2008, the basic biweekly salary schedule for the following supervisory and management positions of the Madison Police Department shall be compensated in accordance with the classifications and salary ranges hereinafter designated; provided, however, that salary designations applicable to individual range steps indicated with a single asterisk (*) shall be effective for persons compensated pursuant to such range steps on and after June 18, 2006,January 1, 2009 and that those indicated with a double asterisk (**) shall be effective for persons compensated pursuant to such range steps on and after December 31, 2006:
