Title
Authorizing the Common Council to accept ownership from Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society of a historical marker for the Hess Cooperage within public right-of-way at 1960 Atwood Avenue.
Body
WHEREAS, the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society wish to install and maintain a historical marker for the Hess Cooperage within public right-of-way at 1960 Atwood Avenue, as shown on Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, the historical marker will commemorate the location of the Frank J. Hess and Sons Cooperage which was Wisconsin’s largest family-owned cooperage, manufacturing white oak beer, wine and whiskey barrels until 1966 at the Atwood Avenue location; and
WHEREAS, the City Engineering and Traffic Engineering Divisions have conditionally approved of the placement of the historical marker; and
WHEREAS, the Privilege in Streets Committee has reviewed this request and approved it with conditions; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society will transfer ownership of the historical marker sign to the City after it has been installed, in exchange for the ongoing maintenance of the sign by the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Madison accepts ownership, from the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society of a historical marker commemorating the Hess Cooperage to be located within a public right-of-way at 1960 Atwood Avenue, as shown on the attached exhibit; subject to the following conditions:
1. The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society shall be responsible for all costs of installation and maintenance of the historical marker.
2. The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society shall locate the historical marker within a specific area, as approved by the City Engineering and Transportation Divisions.
