Commending the Stoughton Road Revitalization Project committee for their commitment to improving their neighborhoods and congratulating them on being nationally recognized for their efforts.
Body
WHEREAS, the Stoughton Road Revitalization Project (SRRP) formed in the summer of 2005 to enhance and improve the appearance of one of Madison’s key gateways, the Stoughton Road Corridor between Highway 30 and Highway 12/18; and

WHEREAS, the SRRP is a grassroots committee representing eight Eastside neighborhoods and comprised of neighborhood residents and elected officials; and

WHEREAS, the committee raised money from a variety of private and public sources and gained the support of the City, County and State through grants and funding; and

WHEREAS, the group organized a number of public forums and individual work groups, which included residents, businesses, City planners, property owners and other stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, through their dedication, commitment and hard work, the group created a plan for an interconnected environment linking residents with neighborhood businesses and services through a multimodal transportation network; and

WHEREAS, the group placed first at the local-level Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) competition, which qualified it to advance to the national competition; and

WHEREAS, the SRRP was one of five national finalists, competing against projects from Wilmington, California, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Indianapolis, Indiana, and San Jose, California; and

WHEREAS, NUSA’s Neighborhood of the Year Award recognizes the outstanding work of neighborhood organizations, businesses and municipalities from all across the United States for their exemplary efforts in improving the quality of life for their neighborhoods, residents and municipalities; and

WHEREAS, the Stoughton Road Revitalization Project committee achieved first place in the NUSA 2008 Neighborhood of the Year Award, in the category of...
