Declaring the first week of May, 2008 as National Youth Week in Madison, Wisconsin.
Body
WHEREAS, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has designated the first week of May, 2008 as National Youth Week to honor America's junior citizens for their accomplishments, and to give fitting recognition of their service to community, state, and nation; and

WHEREAS, Madison Elks Lodge 410 has been a longstanding supporter of youth in our community and will sponsor an observance during that week in tribute to the junior citizens of this community; and

WHEREAS, this year the Madison Elks will provide 40 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and six scholarships to MATC students; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Elks have donated over 500 dictionaries to Madison third graders, and they sponsor programs such as Drug Awareness at Madison Safety Saturday, and Elks Hoop Shoot and Soccer Shoot Out; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Elks also support children with special needs in the community through the Elks Respite Camp and by chartering a special needs Boy Scout Troop; and

WHEREAS, no event could be more deserving of our support and participation than one dedicated to these young people who represent the nation's greatest resource, and who, in the years ahead, will assume the responsibility for advancement of our free society; and

WHEREAS, our youth need the guidance, inspiration, and encouragement which we alone can give in order to help develop those qualities of character essential for future leadership; and

WHEREAS, to achieve this worthy objective we should demonstrate our partnership with youth, our understanding of their hopes and aspirations, and a sincere willingness to help prepare them in every way for responsibilities and opportunities of citizenship;
