The 2008 Parks Division Adopted Capital Budget contains $1,300,000 for improvement of the Breese Stevens facility (see Project #13, page 294). This resolution adds $150,000 of funding authorization to be derived from grants and donations. The resolution also reduces an earlier contingency reserve by $250,000, and makes this amount available for additional improvements at Breese Stevens. No additional General Obligation Debt is required. There is no anticipated impact upon the tax levy.

PREAMBLE: Contract No. 6044 for Breese Stevens Field Restoration was awarded with a very large contingency, $523,284, to cover additional repairs that were anticipated due to the age and condition of the structure. As construction is nearing completion, the contingency can now be reduced by $250,000, and the money can be used to plan for additional improvements to Breese Stevens that were previously deleted for budget reasons. Dane County adopted a $150,000 grant program in their 2008 Capital Budget for capital improvements related to sports tourism, such as attracting WIAA events. The WIAA has indicated that it might be interested in moving the State Soccer Tournaments back to Breese Stevens beginning in the spring of 2010, if their facility requirements can be met.
