Title
Honoring the history and achievements of The Capital Times newspaper.
Body

WHEREAS, The Capital Times was founded in 1917 by William T. Evjue to be a voice for good government, economic justice and other progressive ideals promoted by leaders such as "Fighting Bob" LaFollette; and

WHEREAS, the newspaper grew quickly, competing with Madison's other afternoon newspaper - the Wisconsin State Journal - for the affection of news-hungry Madisonians; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the economic challenges of publishing two competing newspapers led The Capital Times to engage in a unique production partnership with their rival in 1948, securing the viability of both publications for decades to come; and
WHEREAS, The Capital Times continued through those years to aggressively pursue its mission of providing a progressive perspective on events throughout our community and around the world; and
WHEREAS, The Capital Times has, in 2008, decided to embrace the Digital Age and transform itself into an online-focused publication, while continuing weekly supplements focused upon news and the arts;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The Capital Times is congratulated on its many achievements and contributions to the community during its first 90 years of publication; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that The Capital Times and its employees are wished well as they embark upon a new chapter in their history as Madison's "progressive news source."
