Fiscal Note
The 2008 Planning Division Adopted Operating Budget provides $67,000 for Arts Grants.  In addition, the State of Wisconsin has provided a $5,000 grant to the City for arts projects.  This Resolution proposes the allocation of $59,975 for arts grants, plus $12,000 to support the Summer Concert series.

WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission has the authority by ordinance to annually recommend arts grants and performances for approval by the Common Council; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission received 54 applications totaling $142,407.00 in requests for arts projects funding by the annual March 15 application deadline; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission met on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 to evaluated the applications received for the 2008-09 grant period and is recommending 38 projects for grant awards totaling $59,975.00;
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission recommends that the following organizations fall under the Summer Concerts item in the budget: Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra -- Concerts on the Square; Madison Folk Music Society -- Folk at One; Capitol City Band -- Summer Concerts; Northeast Side Senior Coalition -- Warner Park Summer Concerts.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council approves the 2008-09 grant awards and 2008 Summer Concert Performances recommendations of the Madison Arts Commission and authorizes the Planning Division Director, The City Comptroller and the City Attorney to execute the agreements on behalf of the City of Madison to effectuate said grants.
