WHEREAS, Alderperson Mike Verveer was elected by his peers to the office of President of the Madison Common Council on April 17, 2007 for the term 2007-2008; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Verveer met weekly with Mayor Cieslewicz and Council President Pro Tem Tim Bruer to discuss city issues; and
WHEREAS, during his term as Common Council President, Alderperson Verveer served as chair of the Common Council Organizational Committee and served on the Alcohol License Review Committee, Board of Estimates, Downtown Coordinating Committee, Ethics Board, Frances Plaza Public Art Selection Committee, James Madison Park Property Planning Committee, Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee, Joint Southeast Campus Area Committee, Madison Cultural Arts District Board, Madison's Central Business Improvement District (BID) Board, MATC Downtown Education Advisory Committee, Senior Center Board of Directors, State Street Design Project Oversight Committee and the Vending Oversight Committee; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Verveer's tenure as Common Council President was marked by great dedication and enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Verveer met the challenges of fulfilling his duties as Common Council President with dignity and sensibility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Mike Verveer for his conscientious service during his tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.
