Body
WHEREAS Public Health-Madison and Dane County is experiencing a growing demand for Spanish interpretation,

WHEREAS it has become increasingly difficult to secure sufficient contract interpreters to staff clinics that run into the evening hours,

WHEREAS the 2008 Adopted budget for Public Health-Madison and Dane County includes $128,231 for contract interpreters,

WHEREAS Public Health-Madison and Dane County has two Spanish-speaking Public Health Interpreters who currently each work 0.5 FTE,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Public Health-Madison and Dane County is authorized to increase the position of Public Health interpreter from a total of 1.0 FTE to 1.3 FTE.

BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that funds for contract interpretation be reallocated from contract interpretation to permanent salary and benefits and that expenses and revenue be recognized in the following accounts:

UA77-54963-775000 Contract interpreters ($14,408)

Note: The hourly cost of salary and benefits for staff interpretation is marginally higher than the hourly cost of contract interpreters (about four percent higher), but contract interpreters are paid for their travel time to and from their assignments. Public Health-Madison and Dane County has determined that while there is a need for interpreter services at their evening clinics, contract interpreters are frequently not available to work at these clinics.
