Expressing appreciation to Public Health employees represented by SEIU Local 1199 for their dedicated years of service to the residents of the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the Dane County Board of Supervisors and the City of Madison Common Council adopted an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) creating Public Health-Madison and Dane County; and
 
WHEREAS, under the terms of the IGA, Dane County will become the employer of all Public Health employees; and
 
WHEREAS, SEIU Healthcare District 1199 Wisconsin has negotiated an agreement to transfer its represented employees from City to County employment, with many SEIU members moving to County employment in May 2008, and the remaining members becoming County employees between now and the end of 2011; and
 
WHEREAS, Public Health Nurses, Health Educator, Epidemiologists, HIV/AIDS Specialists, Nutritionists, and a Dental Health Specialist have worked as City employees to provide public health services to City residents for many years; and
WHEREAS, these City employees have worked thoughtfully, competently and compassionately to promote health and prevent disease, as a critical part of the City's infrastructure that remains unseen by most residents; and
 
WHEREAS, these dedicated employees will continue their important commitment to public health as county employees serving all Dane County residents; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison wishes to applaud these staff members for their continuing efforts to assure a smooth transition to the new Public Health-Madison and Dane County,
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend the Public Health Nurses, Health Educator, Epidemiologists, HIV/AIDS Specialists, Nutritionists, and Dental Health Specialist who will be leaving City employment as a part of the merger and express gratitude and appreciation for their dedicated service to the residents of the City of Madison.
