To declare the week of April 21 through April 25 as ARBOR WEEK 2008.
Body
WHEREAS, people throughout Wisconsin and across the country celebrate Arbor Day by paying special attention to the wonderful treasure that trees represent, and by dedicating themselves to the continued health of our urban and rural forests; and
 
WHEREAS, every tree planted, nurtured and/or maintained by past generations and enjoyed by citizens today, bears witness to the foresight of our predecessors- men and women who were inspired by the notion of a future endowed with trees; and
 
WHEREAS, trees in our City increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, beautify our community, and reduce costs to private and public concerns; and
 
WHEREAS, Madison has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 19 consecutive years and received a Growth Award for 7 years, and desires to continue it's tree planting ways.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Mayor of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, does hereby proclaim April 21st thru 25th is Arbor Week 2008 in the City of Madison; and all citizens are urged to support the efforts to protect our trees and woodlands and to support our City's urban forestry program.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens are encouraged to plant trees, and to participate in programs that the sponsors of Arbor Week may provide.
