Fiscal Note
The estimated costs of $ 3,877,616 and $4,148,602 for these services will be included in the 2009 and 2010 operating budgets, respectively, to be approved by the Common Council. The 2008 Adopted Metro Transit budget provides $3,699,645 for the services in 2008.
Title
Authorizing the Transit General Manager to exercise contracting options in the agreements with Badger Bus Lines, Badger Cab, and Transit Solutions for the purpose of providing Supplemental Paratransit Services to Metro Transit for the calendar years 2009 and 2010.
Body
Metro Transit is required under the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide complementary paratransit service to its fixed route operation. The transit utility does not have enough capacity to meet all paratransit demand with its directly operated service. It is also not cost effective for the transit division to operate all paratransit services due to the demand/ response nature of the service. Therefore, it is proposed that the division continue to provide this service by means of supplemental service from private transportation providers.
WHEREAS the city has non-exclusive contracts with Badger Bus Lines, Badger Cab, and Transit Solutions for the provision of Supplementary Paratransit Services for the term 2006, 2007, 2008; and,
WHEREAS each of the afore mentioned non-exclusive contracts have an option to continue the term for the term of 2009 and 2010; and,
WHEREAS Badger Bus Lines, Badger Cab, and Transit Solutions have submitted competitive and appropriate quotes for continued service; and,
WHEREAS it is in the best interest of the CITY to exercise these options;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Transit General Manager is hereby authorized to exercise the options for continued complementary paratransit service with Badger Bus Lines, Badger Cab, and Transit Solutions for the years 2009 and 2010 for an estimated amount of $3,877,616 and $ 4,148,602 respectively.
