Authorizing the Mayor, City Clerk and Chief of Police to accept an award of thermal viewing equipment through the Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP).
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) was established in an effort to strengthen the level of preparedness of first responders; and,
 
WHEREAS, the CEDAP program provides commercial equipment to smaller jurisdictions and metropolitan areas; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Police Department (MPD) has been awarded a thermal viewer as part of the CEDAP program; and,
 
WHEREAS, thermal viewing equipment is utilized by law enforcement to investigate crimes and vehicles crashes, and search for missing and/or endangered persons; and,
 
WHEREAS, this equipment is also used to assist law enforcement in apprehending suspects in lowlight conditions, thereby providing both a sight advantage and an additional margin of safety; and,
 
WHEREAS, this equipment has a value of $15,341.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison, through the Madison Police Department (MPD) is authorized to accept a grant of thermal viewing equipment from the Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program.
