Authorizing the City of Madison to participate in the “Lights Out America” event on March 29, 2008 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and encouraging residents, businesses, and other units of government to participate in this event.

Fiscal Note

No appropriation required.

Body

WHEREAS, pollution from the generation of electricity is a cause of global warming and other environmental problems; and,

 

WHEREAS, the “Lights Out America” event scheduled for March 29, 2008 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will save electricity and raise awareness about the importance of conserving electricity; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City of Madison can take a leadership role in promoting conservation of energy through participation in this event and encouraging others to do the same;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison will participate in “Lights Out America” on March 29, 2008 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by turning off all non-essential lights in city facilities.

 

THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City of Madison encourages residents, businesses, and other units of government to participate in the “Lights Out America” event.
