Designating February 5, 2008 as Half Price Books Half Pint Library Day in the City of Madison.

WHEREAS, in 1999, Half Price Books began the Half Price Books Half Pint Library program to benefit young pediatric patients and special needs children across the country; and
 
WHEREAS, more than 35,000 new or gently-used books have been donated to St. Mary's Hospital and the University of Wisconsin Children's Hospital; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to being one of the nation's largest new and used bookstores with over 100 stores in 15 states, Half Price Books has committed to supporting hundreds of literacy efforts across the country; and
 
WHEREAS, Half Price Books has established Half Pint Libraries in 100 pediatric clinics, community centers, and schools throughout the country and has supported literacy projects in the State of Wisconsin for over 29 years;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison recognizes the contributions and generosity of Half Price Books;
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Madison hereby designates Tuesday, February 5, 2008 as
 
                                                HALF PRICE BOOKS
 
                                             HALF PINT LIBRARY DAY
 
in the City of Madison and encourages all residents to join in by honoring the generosity of everyone who made the UW Children's Hospital Half Pint Library a reality for the children in our community.
