The $110,000 of authority in this resolution is for the City's share of a generator to be shared with Dane County for the City-County building.  Funding for this project will be from General Obligation borrowing proceeds.

Title
Authorizing the Information Technology 2007 Capital Budget to be amended to include $110,000 for purchase and installation of an electrical generator in the City-County Building.
Body
Whereas, the Information Technology Department is charged with the responsibility for providing the necessary infrastructure to maintain technology services continuation for City government operations; and
 
Whereas, the City Data Center in the GA level of the City-County Building supports computer operations throughout all City departments; and
 
Whereas, this Data Center currently has approximately only 40 minutes of emergency backup power in the form of a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS); and
 
Whereas, the Dane County Information Technology Department also has a need for a backup generator and will be installing a generator in 2007; and  
 
Whereas, Dane County has offered to share a generator with the City; and
 
Whereas, the City had anticipated allocation of $90,000 in the 2008 Capital Improvement Program to share in the purchase of a generator,
 
Now, Therefore be it Resolved, that the Common Council hereby authorizes that the Information Technology 2007 Capital Budget be amended to include $110,000 for purchase and installation of an electrical generator in the City-County Building, using general obligation borrowing.
