The City of Madison is planning to improve the Starkweather Creek corridor from Milwaukee Street to Darbo Drive by reconstructing the creek shoreline, reconstructing segments of Clyde Gallagher Street (west side of the creek) and constructing a paved bike path along the remainder of the corridor. The creek restoration includes removal of existing sheet piling, minor dredging and restoration of banks with a combination of riprap, cut stone and native plantings. The street reconstruction will replace the existing sub-standard street with a standard pavement section with curb & gutter and concrete sidewalk on one side. Two segments of existing Clyde Gallagher Street will be removed and a new bike / pedestrian bridge over the creek will be constructed, providing a continuous bikeway for the length of the corridor. Sachs Street will be terminated in a cul-de-sac.
