Title
Resolution Approving the Plans and Specifications and Authorizing the Board of Public Works to Advertise and Receive Bids for the Installation of Warning Sirens. (17th, 3rd, and 20th ADs)
Body
Preamble
In 2005, the Stormwater Utility assumed responsibility for the maintenance and expansion of the Emergency Warning Siren System. A long-range plan has been developed to increase the range of the sirens and retire smaller sirens with limited range.
In 2007, it is proposed to upgrade Siren 173 on S. Whitney Way at Akira Toki Middle School, replace and upgrade Siren 176 at S. Segoe Road and Berwyn Street with a new siren at 5306 Tokay Boulevard; and install a new siren at 4601 Sycamore Avenue, the Sycamore Landfill Site.
The upgrade of Siren 173 has also been coordinated with the City of Fitchburg.
After these new sirens installed and tested, Engineering staff, working together with the Fire Marshall and the Dane County Emergency Management Department will evaluate which sirens can be retired. Subject to sound measurements, up to four sirens may be retired after these new sirens with greater range are placed in service.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Plans and Specifications for the installation of warning sirens are hereby approved and that the Board of Public Works is hereby authorized to advertise and receive bids for said improvements.
