Fiscal Note
The City has established a special revenue fund (so99) through which revenues and expenditures relating to the Accessible Housing Conference will be administered. The estimated expense budget for the Conference is $6,830, to be offset entirely by revenues derived from sponsors, registration fees and display space rentals.

Body
WHEREAS, it is a priority of the City of Madison to provide for housing opportunities, including housing that is barrier-free and accessible by those with physical limitations; and

WHEREAS, the need for accessible housing is a growing concern, as borne out by statistics that include: over 21,000 veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan will have some form of physical disability; one in three individuals will become disabled for at least 90 days before reaching the age of 65; and, during our lifetimes, one in five of us will need housing that is accessible or barrier-free; and

WHEREAS, an Accessible Housing Conference will offer educational and networking opportunities for both housing developers and consumers relative to issues concerning accessible and barrier-free housing; and

WHEREAS, the need for such a Conference has been recognized by many sponsors throughout the community, including American Family Insurance Company, the Wisconsin Architects Foundation, the Community Development Block Grant Office, the Community Living Alliance and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Association, and by the many Conference participants and organizers, including Access to Independence, the Madison Area Community Land Trust, the Commission of People with Disabilities, the City Department of Civil Rights, the Community Development Authority, City Housing Operations and the City Housing Committee; and
