Costs to insure the art works are estimate at $.057 per hundred dollars of value, or $5.70 for an item valued at $10,000. On the whole, the insurance costs are not anticipated to present a significant expense burden. It is anticipated that the expenses will be borne by the City Insurance Fund.

Authorizing the Madison Arts Program Administrator to execute contracts on behalf of the City for works displayed through the City's ARTSpace Program.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison, through the Madison Arts Commission (MAC), offers exhibition space to artists through a program known as ARTSpace; and
WHEREAS, under this program, the MAC exhibition committee selects artists to display their work for the benefit of the public in designated spaces within the Madison Municipal Building, the Mayor's conference room, and other locations; and
WHEREAS, such exhibits are coordinated by the Madison Arts Program Administrator within the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, under the authority granted to it by Sec. 8.33 of the Madison General Ordinances, the MAC has developed guidelines for the ARTSpace program, and those guidelines state that the City of Madison will insure the displayed works of art while on exhibit on City property; and
WHEREAS, a written contract between the City and the Artist is necessary in order to provide such insurance and to establish terms and conditions for the exhibitions; and
WHEREAS, this procedure has been approved by the Comptroller's office.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Arts Program Administrator is hereby authorized to execute contracts on behalf of the City with artists selected for the ARTSpace program in a form to be approved by the City Attorney and the Comptroller/Risk Manager, for the purposes described above.
