Commending Charles E. Cole, Assistant Chief of Police, upon his retirement after thirty-five years of dedicated service to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Charles E. Cole has provided distinguished service to the City of Madison since June 14,1971, serving first as a Police Cadet, then as a Police Officer and then being promoted through the ranks of Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, until he reached the rank of Assistant Chief on November 11, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, his involvement in significant efforts such as Quality Leadership, police staffing studies, department-wide goal setting, development of a Regional Management System, and Strategic Planning gave rise to considerable improvements in systems and processes within the Police Department; and,

WHEREAS, his contribution throughout the Police Department in tasks as varied as criminal investigations, narcotics, training supervision, records management and district command, resulted in widespread appreciation for his leadership abilities and professional expertise; and,

WHEREAS, under his guidance the Police Department has improved the quality and number of police staff, in an effort to maintain it's commitment to service excellence; and,

WHEREAS, throughout his career Assistant Chief Cole has been well-respected for his professional integrity, personal insight, practical problem-solving and ability to effectively collaborate with others; and,

WHEREAS, his implementation of collaborative efforts with other agencies have been greatly valued, not only by staff of the Police Department, but also by other City staff, department heads, political leaders and leaders of numerous other government organizations; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure the Madison Police Department has become nationally recognized as an innovative, creative law enforcement agency, with a commitment to implementation of new ideas such as problem-solving and community p...
