Under the existing agreement establishing the MPO the City of Madison provides funding to match Federal, State, and other funding to support the operations of the MPO. This responsibility will continue under the redesignation.

Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an agreement to redesignate the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Madison Urbanized area.
Body
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Madison Urbanized Area is charged, under Title 23U.S.C., Section 134, as the organization responsible for undertaking a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuing transportation planning and decision making program for the Madison Metropolitan Planning Area; and
WHEREAS, during the Federal recertification process for the existing Madison area MPO in 2005 and 2006, it was determined by the Federal Highway Administration that the Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board structure and membership was not in compliance with Federal requirements and that the MPO would need to go through the redesignation process to affect the necessary changes to bring the MPO policy board into compliance; and
WHEREAS, on June 7, 2006 the Madison Area MPO Policy Board took the first step in the process and approved changes to the structure and membership of the board to bring the board into compliance with federal requirements and to better reflect the increase in the number of units of government within the Metropolitan Planning area which increased in size, following the 2000 census; and
WHEREAS, a new agreement that formerly redesignates the new Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Madison Urbanized Area has been drafted for consideration by the local units of government within the area; and
