Thanking Miller Brewing Company for its generosity in sponsoring the free, expanded Metro service on New Year's Eve and expressing appreciation for making its Miller Free Rides Program an excellent example of successful and responsible community partnership.
Body
WHEREAS, the City has provided free, expanded transit service on New Year's Eve for the past 31 years, beginning with grant resources from State Highway Safety funds; and
 
WHEREAS, when the State stopped providing Highway Safety funding for this service, Metro Transit solicited sponsors from the community; and
 
WHEREAS, Miller Brewing Company has participated as a sponsor of the free, expanded New Year's Eve service since 1994, generously contributing more than $100,000 to Metro Transit over the past twelve years; and
 
WHEREAS, Miller Brewing Company's commitment has ensured a valuable  alternative mode of transportation to help guarantee safe and happy New Year's celebrations to the citizens of Madison as well as the greater Madison community; and
 
WHEREAS, it is in the city's best interests to nurture private-public partnerships to fund unique services that may not otherwise be funded or provided;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council thank Miller Brewing Company for its sustained generosity and express their appreciation for Miller's part in making its Miller Free Rides Program an excellent example of successful and responsible community partnership.
