Authorizing the Madison Police Department to use an apartment unit within the City-owned apartment building located at 2333 Allied Drive for a neighborhood police office.
Body
WHEREAS, until recently, the Madison Police Department ("MPD") operated a neighborhood police office and was the sole tenant in the City-owned 8-unit apartment building located at 4717 Jenewein Road; and
 
WHEREAS, such building is now completely vacant, and the City's Department of Planning and Development ("DPD") has made arrangements to have the building winterized and shut down; and
 
WHEREAS, the DPD and the MPD have agreed to relocate the neighborhood police office to the City-owned apartment building located at 2333 Allied Drive.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby authorizes the Madison Police Department ("MPD") to operate a neighborhood police office in the City-owned apartment building located at 2333 Allied Drive, on the following terms and conditions:
 
1.      The MPD shall be authorized to use Apartment Unit No. 4 at 2333 Allied Drive (the "Premises") for the operation of a neighborhood police office.
 
2.      The Premises shall be provided to the MPD at no cost, with the exception that the MPD shall be required to pay all costs associated with data and telephone services to the Premises.
 
3.      Either the City's Department of Planning and Development ("DPD") or the MPD may elect to terminate the MPD's use and occupancy of the Premises upon a minimum of thirty (30) days written notice to the other party.
 
4.      Upon agreement of the MPD and the DPD, the Premises may be relocated to another apartment unit within the City-owned buildings in the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Allied Drive.
