CHARTER - Creating Section 3.77(1)(jj) of the Madison General Ordinances to clarify that the office of City Clerk/Treasurer is exempt from the Civil Service System.

DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS:  This is one of  5 ordinances (ID #s  02702, 02703, 02704, 02705 and 02636) to reorganize the existing Department of Revenue into the separate positions of Clerk/Treasurer and Assessor and deleting the existing Department of Revenue.  For a more detailed analysis, see the Report of the Office of City Attorney.

The Common Council of the City of Madison do ordain as follows:
 
Subdivision (jj) of Subsection (1) entitled "Civil Service System Created - Exceptions Therefrom" of Section 3.35 entitled "Civil Service" of the Madison General Ordinances is created to read as follows:
 
"(jj)      City Clerk/Treasurer.
 
This is a Charter Ordinance which requires adoption by two-thirds of all the members of the Common Council and which shall take effect sixty (60) days following passage and publication subject, however, to the referendum provisions of Section 66.0101, Wis. Stats."
