CHARTER - Amending Section 3.14(1) of the Madison General Ordinances relating to the supervision of the Assessor by the Director of the City Department of Revenue.

DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS:  This is one of  5 ordinances (ID #s  02702, 02703, 02704, 02705 and 02636) to reorganize the existing Department of Revenue into the separate positions of Clerk/Treasurer and Assessor and deleting the existing Department of Revenue.  For a more detailed analysis, see the Report of the Office of City Attorney.

Pursuant to Sections 62.0001(2)(c), Wis. Stats. 2003-04, the Common Council of the City of Madison do ordain as follows:
 
City of Madison Charter Ordinance No. 60 relating to the supervision of the Assessor by the Director of the City Department of Revenue in Subsection (1) of Section 3.14 entitled "City Assessor" of the Madison General Ordinances is amended to read as follows:
 
"3.14      CITY ASSESSOR.
(1)      Effective March 1, 1989, the position of City Assessor as it becomes vacant shall be filled according to Sec. 3.38(6)(f) of these ordinances. The incumbent of the position as of the above date may enter into an employment contract as described in such section at his or her option. The City Assessor shall, insofar as it is not inconsistent with State Statutes, be under the supervision of the Director of the Department of Revenue and shall perform all work in assessing of property and the preparation of all assessments as required by state law.
This is a Charter Ordinance and shall be effective upon sixty (60) days from passage and publication subject, however, to the referendum procedures of Sec. 66.0101(5), Wis. Stats."
