Recognition of Assistant Fire Chief Carl Saxe upon his retirement after spending more than 31 years serving our community.
Body
WHEREAS, Assistant Fire Chief Carl Saxe started with the Madison Fire Department on August 5, 1974 and retired January 3, 2006 after more than 31 years of dedicated service to our community; and
 
WHEREAS, he has occupied the positions of firefighter, firefighter/paramedic, Fire Lieutenant, Training Captain, Division Chief and Assistant Fire Chief during his long career; and
 
WHEREAS, his fifteen years of experience as a firefighter/paramedic resulted in treating over 8,000 patients that included the delivery of four infants; and
 
WHEREAS, he was involved in the design of the first Hazardous Materials Response Bus upon the City becoming one of the State Regional Response Teams; and
 
WHEREAS, he was dedicated to the improvement of staffing by use of the Creative Staffing Program which increased daily staffing levels and significantly reduced the cost to the City of Madison; and
 
WHEREAS, he also worked to improve equipment and hiring/promotional processes;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council express their appreciation for the services and dedication that Assistant Fire Chief Saxe gave to our community during his years of service; and
 
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that he will be missed and that we wish him the best in his retirement from the Fire Department.
