I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.  "Statements of Interests" forms are on file for those appointees required to file.
 
*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.
Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, " … provisions of this section shall not necessarily apply with reference to membership on special study committees where in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of certain nonresident members who are particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience … ."

Currently serving on:      Board of Building Code, Fire Code, Conveyance Code and Licensing Appeals
 
Rationale: Mr. Hernandez is the Principal of Sherman Middle School.  His knowledge regarding school curriculum and how sustainability can be incorporated into school activities will be a valuable asset for the subcommittee.
 
JOANN K. KELLEY, 4333 Crawford Drive, 53711 (10th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Madison Gas & Electric Representative.  Ms. Kelley is employed by Madison Gas & Electric and works in the areas of energy efficiency and customer services.
 
JAMES G. LORMAN, 516 Wingra Street, 53711 (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Water Quality Representative.  Mr. Lorman holds a PhD in aquatic ecology and is a Professor of Biology at Edgewood College.  He is a cofounder, board member and chair of Friends of Lake Wingra and served five years on the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission.
 
BRYANT M. MORODER, 29 Farwell Street, 53704 (6th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Sustainable Community Representative.  Mr. Moroder is the Associate Director of Sustain Dane, Inc.
 
* MICHAEL E. WHALEY, 969 Katie Lane, Oregon - appoint to the position of Business/Construction Representative.  Mr. Whaley is the Director of Pre-Construction at J.H. Findorff & Son.
 
Rationale: Mr. Whaley is with Findorff Builders, one of Wisconsin's leading builders.  Findorff is committed to utilizing green building practices whenever possible, and having Findorff on the subcommittee will be a valuable asset.

Rationale: Mr. Dunbar is the Executive Director of the Center for Resilient Cities, which works to help residents and public servants create healthy, high-quality environments. They build the capacity of urban communities to create and preserve green infrastructure networks that improve the natural environment, citizen health, and economic opportunities, and they have offices in Madison and Milwaukee.
 
* ERIK J. KASS, 3017 Edenberry Street, Fitchburg, 53711 - appoint to the position of Madison Metropolitan School District Representative.  Mr. Kass is an Assistant Superintendent in the Madison Metropolitan School District.
 
Rationale: Mr. Kass is the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Madison Metropolitan School District.  In his position, he deals with all Madison Metropolitan School District facilities and has also been exploring local foods in school meals.
 
GREGORY A. BOLLOM, 4770 Enchanted Valley Road, Middleton, 53562 - appoint to the position of Madison Gas & Electric Representative.  Mr. Bollom is the Assistant Vice President of Energy Planning at Madison Gas & Electric.
 
Rationale: Mr. Bollom is the Assistant Vice President of Energy Planning at Madison Gas and Electric Company.  His expertise on the committee will be very valuable.
