The proposed resolution amends the Police Department’s operating budget and authorizes the acceptance of a $69,615 U.S. Department of Justice (JAG) grant for the purchase of a victim notification software subscription. The software was originally purchased in 2021 through a Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) grant and this JAG award will extend the software subscription period paid with grant funding.

Body
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice awards each state an annual Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) grant for law enforcement purposes, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice has made a subaward to the Police Department for victim notification software originally purchased through a Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) grant subaward and this JAG award would extend the software subscription period with grant funding beyond the end of the PSN grant; and,

WHEREAS, the victim notification and community engagement software enhances the Department’s records management systems by increasing communication between the agency and members of the public by automatically sending, by either email or text, a message to crime victims explaining the next steps in the investigative process, and a customer satisfaction survey to victims of crime and community members filing reports with the police department.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police (or designee) are authorized to accept a Justice Assistance Grant award from the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of $69,615.
