Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the acceptance of a $520,384 grant from FEMA and amends the City of Madison Fire Department’s 2024 adopted operating budget by the same amount. The granting period runs for three years, through September 20, 2027, and funds activities related to planning and implementing equity focused projects to improve community resilience. Most of the funding will be used to fund a full time, limited-term position (LTE) and costs associated with planning, outreach and education, and training. This position will not continue beyond the grant cycle if additional grant funding is not secured. This grant does not require any cost sharing or matching funds from the City of Madison.

WHEREAS, the City of Madison is dedicated to the safety and preparedness of our communities;
WHEREAS, Madison Fire Department (MFD) conducts emergency management functions for the City of Madison to ensure preparedness and resilience in accordance with state law;
WHEREAS, MFD is committed to carrying out the goals of emergency management with a focus on equity and community involvement;
WHEREAS, MFD has been awarded the FEMA FY 2024 Regional Catastrophic Planning Grant (RCPGP) for the purposes of planning and implementing equity focused projects to improve community resilience;
WHEREAS, the grant will provide funding for costs associated with planning, outreach and education, and training to promote metropolitan-wide individual and community resilience, improve the resilience of structures and organizations serving communities, and developing coordination systems for volunteer management;
