Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the Parks Division to apply for and, if awarded, accept grant funding of up to $24,000 from the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Surface Water Grant Program. The grant will fund the cost of implementing a Watercraft Decontamination system at Marshall Park Boat Launch to allow users to adequately wash their watercraft before and after entering Lake Mendota. The grant requires a 25% match of $6,000. Funding for the match is available in the 2025 Parks Division Executive Capital Budget (Munis #15111). If awarded, the Parks Division's 2025 Executive Capital Budget will be amended to reflect the award. No additional appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, the 2018-2023 Park and Open Space Plan strategy to “Improve Public Access to Lakes” includes supporting efforts to improve water quality in Madison’s lakes and waterways; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Aquatics Invasive Species Prevention funding will support the purchase and installation of a power washing system (“Watercraft Decontamination System”) to properly clean watercraft entering and exiting Lake Mendota, to prevent the spread of damaging Aquatics Invasive Species (AIS) entering the Yahara chain of lakes; and
WHEREAS, the Parks Division has partnered with the Mendota Yacht Club to host a Regatta in 2025 and will use the event to serve as a test for the Watercraft Decontamination System for future boat launch locations; and,
