Fiscal Note
The proceeds of this grant will be accounted for in a segregated fund. Funds will be used for computer equipment, software, phone lines, overtime. and a 1.0 FTE LTE position for about one year. There is no match requirement. No City funds have been budgeted to continue this position after the grant ends.

Body
WHEREAS, the need for law enforcement throughout the State of Wisconsin to share information critical to public safety and the prevention of terrorism in a timely manner; and,

WHEREAS, the Office of Justice Assistance has obtained Federal and State funding to create the ability for law enforcement to use technology to more efficiently share critical information with one another; and,

WHEREAS, the Office of Justice Assistance has named this justice information sharing initiative as the "WIJIS" program (Wisconsin Justice Information Sharing); and,

WHEREAS, the Madison Police Department has been meeting and working with state and local agencies in the promotion and development of information sharing and WIJIS since 2000; and,

WHEREAS, staff from the Office of Justice Assistance, at the March 30, 2004 City of Madison Common Council meeting, registered and spoke in support of resolution ID#35679 authorizing the Police Department to negotiate an intergovernmental agreement for purposes of creating a shared, multi-jurisdictional records management system with 16 other communities in Dane County; and,

WHEREAS, staff from the Office of Justice Assistance, while speaking in support of resolution ID#35679 pledged financial assistance in the form of grants to the Madison Police Department (MPD) for internal staff costs associated wi...
