In Memory of Jessica Bullen.
Body
WHEREAS, Jessica Bullen was the treasurer for three years at Quann Community Garden, which serves 110 families; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica expanded her commitment to Quann Community Gardens by working to make a garden expansion possible, thus allowing 50 new families to join the garden this spring; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica also worked with the Quann Park users group to build consensus between dog walkers, gardeners, soccer players and others who enjoy the park; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica also worked to expand the Living Fence, an arbor that encircles the garden with grapes, raspberries, blackberries, roses, and kiwis; and
 
WHEREAS, in recent months, Jessica often filled the role of convener of the Quann Executive Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica showed talent and humbleness as she helped her diverse garden community build consensus between many language groups and gardening styles; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica served on the Mayor's Committee for Community Gardens, helping city government support the 24 gardens in the Madison area; and
 
WHEREAS, Jessica, 29 years old, tragically died as a result of injuries received in a bicycle accident on July 3, 2005;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and the Common Council extend their sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Jessica Bullen; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council will strive to continue support of Madison's Community Gardens, in part, to honor Jessica who, in her short life, dedicated many hours of volunteer time for the Community Gardens of Madison.
