The proposed resolution authorizes acceptance of a grant from the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice for approximately $17,285 to purchase a fingerprinting system. The grant requires a 10% local match which will be met through personnel expenses and supplies already in the 2019 Police operating budget. There are no additional operating expenses associated with the system.

Amending the Police Department’s 2019 Operating Budget, and authorizing the Mayor and Chief of Police designee to accept a grant award from the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of up to $17,285 to purchase a livescan fingerprinting system to increase operational efficiency and flexibility
Body
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin seeks to improve the timeliness and accuracy of fingerprint submissions from local law enforcement agencies to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WDOJ) Crime Information Bureau; and,
WHEREAS, WDOJ has obtained federal funding to provide local law enforcement agencies with livescan fingerprinting systems to meet this objective; and,
WHEREAS, the Madison Police Department is a high volume contributor to the State’s criminal history database; and
WHEREAS, the livescan system will aid in the processing of apprehended individuals at a district location.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police designee are authorized to accept a National Criminal History Improvement Program grant award for $17,285 from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Police Department’s 2019 Operating Budget is amended to appropriate any grant funds received to be used for the purposes of the grant, including modifications upon appropriate approvals from WDOJ.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Finance Department and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
