Fiscal Note
The 2007 Capital Budget, as recommended by the Board of Estimates, includes $3,616,000 for the purchase of these vehicles, funded by a combination of Fleet Services reserves and general obligation debt.

Authorizing Fleet Service Division to purchase 21 automated refuse collection vehicles on a sole source contract from Stepp Equipment.
Body
WHEREAS, the Streets Division is switching to automated collection of refuse to reduce workers compensation costs, increase productivity, accommodate the growth of the City, and lower program costs; and
 
WHEREAS, the Streets Division has already been successful with an automated recycling collection program; and
 
WHEREAS, the Streets Division used five different trucks for the automated recycling program and conducted field demonstrations of other trucks in order to determine which truck would best meet the needs of the new program; and
 
WHEREAS, these extensive field tests, and with input from operators and field supervisors, the Streets Division and Fleet Service Division have determined that the LaBrie automated body with a Condor and/or Peterbilt chassis is the best vehicle for Madison's automated refuse collection program; and
 
WHEREAS, that funding for the purchase of these vehicles is included in the 2007 Capital Budget.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Fleet Service Division is authorized to purchase 21 automated refuse collection vehicles on a sole source contract from Stepp Equipment.
