Fiscal Note

The proposed resolution authorizes City staff to solicit and accept donations to Metro Transit for a Bus Roadeo. Donations solicited by Metro staff will be used to pay a portion of the costs for the event. Metro plans to fund costs from its existing operating budget authority.

Recognizing fundraising for an annual Metro Transit Bus Roadeo will serve City purposes, be conducted by City staff, and will comply with the City’s ethics code.

Body

WHEREAS, International and Regional Bus Roadeos have been held by transit agencies since approximately the 1970s; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Bus Roadeo is an event for transit agency employees to test their driving skills; and,

 

WHEREAS, Until approximately 2008, the City’s state transit insurance carrier, Transit Mutual Insurance, hosted a Bus Roadeo for all Wisconsin transit agencies, at which the City’s operators participated; and,

 

WHERAS, Metro Transit held a Bus Roadeo in 2024 with approval for staff fundraising granted by the Common Council through RES-24-00169; and,

 

WHEREAS, an annual Metro Transit Bus Roadeo will provide opportunities for teambuilding, improve employee safety, and improve morale; and,

 

WHEREAS, Metro Transit hosts an annual safety banquet where it recognizes safe service, and wishes to incorporate awards from the Bus Roadeo into the annual safety banquet; and,

 

WHEREAS, It is anticipated that winners from the agency event may go on to regional and/or international roadeo competitions.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council recognizes that private fundraising for the purpose of funding the Bus Roadeo will be for a City purpose, be conducted by City staff, and will comply with the City’s ethics code.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that City staff are authorized to solicit and accept donations to Metro for the Bus Roadeo, in compliance with any instruction from the Office of the City Attorney and Finance Director.
