The proposed resolution amends the Police Department’s 2024 Operating Budget and authorizes the application and if awarded, the acceptance of a FY2024 USDOJ Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for $88,319. The grant requires that Dane County and the City of Madison submit a joint application under one agency and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and County Executive Jamie Kuhn have signed the required Memorandum of Understanding regarding a proposed plan for the allocation and administration of any funds awarded. Dane County will receive $10,820 for the District Attorney Crime Response Program victim/witness services and the Police Department will receive $77,499 for a passenger van and accessories to transport personnel to incidents and assignments. Any interest earned on the advanced funding will be used by the Police Department for work supplies. There is no impact on the levy.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice through the Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance has designated the City of Madison to receive a FY2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award; and,
WHEREAS, the JAG program supports law enforcement, crime prevention and education, planning, evaluation, technology improvement, and crime victim and witness initiatives and mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs; and,
WHEREAS, the terms of the grant require that Dane County and the City of Madison submit a joint application under one agency; and,
