Fiscal Note
The new Agreement will be effective January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2011.  The annual fee ($25,000 for 2007) is included in the 2007 Executive Operating Budget and will need to be included in future years' budgets.
Title
Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign an Intergovernmental Agreement for the utilization of the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center by the Madison Police Department.
Body
WHEREAS, in 1996 the City of Madison and Dane County entered into a joint venture to construct and operate a firing range that includes a number of shooting ranges and enclosed lands suitable for law enforcement training; and,
 
WHEREAS, the original agreement for joint use of this facility expires in December, 2006; and,
 
WHEREAS, utilization of this facility is essential in maintaining mandated training and certification requirements for City law enforcement personnel; and,
 
WHEREAS, representatives from the City and County recently negotiated an agreement whereby both parties have agreed to the Madison Police Department's utilization requirements and fees; and,
 
WHEREAS, this agreement, if signed, will expire December 31, 2011; and,
 
WHEREAS, the $25,000 in 2007 annual fees required from the City are included in the 2007 Executive Operating Budget proposal currently before the Council.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to sign an Intergovernmental Agreement for the utilization of the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center by the Madison Police Department.
