Expressing sympathy of the people of Madison for the victims of the Indian Ocean Tsunami.
Body
WHEREAS, on December 26, 2004 a tsunami in the Indian Ocean devastated many nations in that region; and
WHEREAS, the tsunami resulted in the loss of over 150,000 lives and hundreds of thousands of injuries; and
WHEREAS, the tsunami caused widespread destruction and damage to homes and public infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison express their sympathy to the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami, and wish a quick recovery to the people and nations that have been impacted by this disaster.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council call on the federal government and international aid agencies to provide effective short-term and long-term assistance for the victims of this disaster.
