The proposed resolution authorizes City staff to solicit and accept donations to Metro Transit for a Bus Roadeo. Any additional expenditure authority needed as a result of donations received would require an amendment to the budget and be subject to Council approval.
Title
Recognizing fundraising for the purpose of funding the new Metro Transit Bus Roadeo will serve City purposes, be conducted by City staff, and will comply with the City’s ethics code.
Body
WHEREAS, International and Regional Bus Roadeos have been held by transit agencies since approximately the 1970s; and,
WHEREAS, the Bus Roadeo is an event for transit agency employees to test their driving skills; and,
WHEREAS, until approximately 2008, the City’s state transit insurance carrier, Transit Mutual Insurance, hosted a Bus Roadeo for all Wisconsin transit agencies, at which the City’s operators participated; and,
WHEREAS, Metro’s bus operators have not been able to participate in an annual Bus Roadeo since that time; and,
WHEREAS, Metro Transit’s Bus Roadeo will be an opportunity for teambuilding, improving employee safety, and improving morale; and,
WHEREAS, Metro Transit hosts an annual Safety Banquet where it recognizes safe service, and wishes to incorporate awards from the Bus Roadeo into the annual Safety Banquet; and,
WHEREAS, it may be possible that winners from the agency event can go on to regional and/or international roadeo competitions.
WHEREAS, Metro Transit plans to host this event over an estimated six-day period in June 2024, including days needed for set up and for our employees to practice for the day of the competition and it is anticipated that the competition will be held on a Saturday in June 2024 followed by an awards ceremony and Safety Banquet.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council recognizes that private fundraising for the purpose of funding the Bus Roadeo will be for a City purpose, be conducted by City staff, and will comply...
