This resolution would appropriate $4,515 from Contingent Reserve to City Memberships in the Miscellaneous Appropriations section of the 2006 Operating Budget. The current balance available in the Contingent Reserve is $800,000.

Amending the 2006 Adopted City of Madison Operating Budget to appropriate funds from the Contingent Reserve to join the Dane County Cities and Villages Association.
Body
WHEREAS, the population of the City of Madison now accounts for less than fifty percent (50%) of the population in Dane County; and
WHEREAS, the small cities and villages in Dane County are growing faster than any other segment of municipal government; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison operates a transit system that serves a number of other communities; and
WHEREAS, discussions are underway to expand that transit system to other communities via contract; and
WHEREAS, the interests of the urban areas are often aligned; and
WHEREAS, better communication has the potential of assuring that the City of Madison's needs are at least understood, if not agreed with;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that an amount equal to $4,515.00 be appropriated from the Contingent Reserve for membership in the Dane County Cities and Villages Association in 2006.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor or his representative will represent the City of Madison before the Dane County Cities and Villages Association.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Mayor shall at least once a year report to the Common Council Organizational Committee and the Common Council the matters discussed at meetings of the Dane County Cities and Villages Association and the positions taken by the City of Madison on matters of interest.
