To declare the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month and to recognize the benefits that Madison parks provide for recreational opportunities.
Body
Proclamation
The City of Madison has more than 6,000 acres devoted to parks and open space for recreation activities that enhance the physical health and mental well-being of individuals, work forces, and communities. The City of Madison Parks Division collaborates with the Madison Metropolitan School District/Madison School Community Recreation to promote participation in recreation programs to build self-esteem and provide positive and constructive alternatives to anti-social behavior.
The City of Madison Parks Division encourages both active and passive recreational opportunities and its open spaces enhance the desirability of communities as locations for business, industry and residential housing.
The City of Madison recognizes that its parks and the recreational opportunities they provide stimulate tourism revenues and the economic development of both our city and surrounding communities. Parks and open space are vital to the appearance and livability of communities, protect our air and water, and balance our ecosystem.
Whereas, it is the right of everyone regardless of age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin or ability to enjoy our many parks and open spaces and to participate in active and passive recreation programs and activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That all of Madison's citizens join with citizens of other communities throughout this great state in recognizing that parks and recreation services are essential to the quality of life not only in July during "July Is Parks and Recreation Month," but all through the year as well.
