Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2024-24 Authorization to Accept Additional American Rescue Plan Funds from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for the Maternal Child Health Program

Body

Public Health Madison & Dane County (Public Health) proposes the acceptance of an additional $16,667 from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) for the Maternal Child Health (MCH) program.

The Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) process is a crucial step in preventing future fetal and infant loss, and addressing the racial disparities seen in birth outcomes. A multidisciplinary team reviewing all cases of fetal and infant loss in Dane County allows for systems-level actions to be identified and implemented to prevent future loss. DHS awarded Public Health additional funds to continue our work of increasing FIMR participation among Black and Hispanic people with lived experience of infant loss, implement a process to elevate community voice in the FIMR process, and build connectedness among FIMR participants. These funds will be used to compensate people with lived experience of infant loss for participating in the FIMR process, as well as attend relevant training opportunities for maternal and child health.

The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County previously approved Board of Health Resolution #2023-02 authorizing the acceptance of $50,000 from DHS. PHMDC received an additional $16,667 from DHS, increasing the total amount to $66,667 and extending the end date of the original agreement from June 30, 2024 to December 31, 2024.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to accept and expend the funding, sign the related agreement, and amend the 2024 Public Health Budget by $16,667.
