The proposed resolution will result in a double fill of the Director of Planning & Community & Economic Development for up to 30 working days. The estimated cost of the double fill is $17,000, including benefits.
Title
Extending the provisional appointment of Nan Fey as Director of Planning & Community & Economic Development for up to 30 working days beyond the confirmation of a new DPCED Director, or approximately through February 2020.
Body
WHEREAS, DPCED Director Natalie Erdman retired from the City effective July 10, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Erdman’s last day in the office was April 26, 2019, after which she used accrued leave until her retirement date, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor appointed Nan Fey as a provisional appointment to be DPCED Director effective May 20, 2019, and
WHEREAS, the process to fill the DPCED Director is underway, but a new Director is unlikely to be confirmed before January, 2020, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Fey’s appointment is intended to last 30 days after the new Director starts in order to provide for an orderly transition, and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Personnel Rules indicate that a provisional appointment that lasts longer than six months must be authorized by the Common Council;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the provisional appointment of Nan Fey as DPCED Director is extended through 30 working days after the new DPCED Director is confirmed by the Common Council, thereof.
